Surfboard design reposted

As requested here's my entry into the competition again :)

It was a competition for a surfboard design for a new range of women's surfboards to be made and released here in New Zealand. The winner would win a surfboard with their design on - VERY COOL! I would have absolutely loved a surfboard with my design - it's been many, many years since I last surfed and that would have been so good to get back into it. They're not cheap surfboards! Ah well.

I took the photo of lily's from a bunch that my wonderful Chris got me and the two koru in the shape of a heart represents us and our love (similar to our wedding bands that I designed as well). The koru is an integral symbol in Maori design, it's a stylised newborn, unfurling fern frond and symbolises new life, growth, strength and peace. Commonly known to represent new beginnings.

Wow Moggie, thank you so much. I really appreicate your comment. So now I wanna know what you do for a job... I'll tell you bout mine if you tell me bout yours... ;) I've been in the design/advertising industry for about 13 years now in designer roles with various companies, with my last job being studio manager of a small agency (hard, hard work as it was start-up company and required 200% constantly), then I got pregnant and left to be a mummy (hard, hard work but incredibly rewarding! Just wish I got the salary I used to get!!!). I've won a couple of national awards, which is pretty cool to have in the old portfolio as they're well known industry-wide. I miss it as I am very into my work, so I'm still taking on the odd project on a freelance basis, but it's hard with the wee one. Looking forward hearing bout yours. See ya and thanks again.

Looking at how good yours is, I do want to see what they ultimately picked.

Gotta ask... is it horribly prohibitive in cost to get a board with that design made for yourself?

I know NOTHING about surfing so that may be a silly question.

Hi Michelle and lovely little Sienna - took me a while to work out who you were!! But now I know - thanks heaps for that :)

Sean - Thanks a lot. I desperately want to see the winning entry but they're not being very helpful in enabling this. I shall keep trying though cause I'm a persistent thing. Surfboard's cost anything from $500 upwards here and then I'd say getting your design put on (dependant upon size) would be, at a guess, around $200-$300 for something large like mine.

Hi Saffron. Sorry to hear about your entry not getting the winners but hey, yours is still a wonderful, wonderful design. Think you could get that design on a surfer's tee or something? I know it's meant to be on a woman's surfboard but I think it would also be gorgeous on white lycra.

Cheers to you.

Hey Divemuster - thanks! It would be great on a tee - good idea. I'll have to do that at some stage - though of course it may end up with the many t-shirt designs I've thought I'll do but haven't gotten around to. I'll do it once day though. Just wont be anytime soon!

And divemuster is right. It'll be a great idea to print the design on tee... :D
